Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy tells the story of Bathsheba Everdene, a young independent woman who inherits a large estate in 19th century rural England. After a series of misfortunes, she finds herself caught in a passionate love triangle between three very different men—the shepherd Gabriel Oak, the soldier Sergeant Troy, and the wealthy bachelor William Boldwood.
